A lifetime ago -
I was a very excited first-time expectant mother, looking forward to the picture-perfect motherhood that I’d always dreamed of… UPDATE: Motherhood is anything but picture-perfect.
As a young woman, I had this idea of who I would be as a mother - seeing other women with their kids that look like they have it all together.
A beautiful home, with adorable children in coordinating outfits and eating healthy homemade snacks. (Hilarious, right?)
In reality, I am far from that mom. I found myself drowning under the mental load of that expectation. The constant negative self-talk, lack of self-care, and my inability to handle the stress of becoming a new mom led to feeling burnt out, overwhelmed, and rapid weight gain.
I had no energy. No confidence in my abilities as a parent, wife, or caregiver. I had gained more than 20 lbs in a single month, found myself stuck in destructive patterns, and was nowhere near being the mom I wanted to be.
I felt totally lost and completely drained.
After the passing of my father figure, and finding out I was pregnant with our second child (entering myself into the two-under-two club) and I KNEW I had to do things differently.
This is how I started my own wellness journey and discovered a passion for Health Coaching.
Fast Forward.
Initially looking for support in becoming a more well-rounded and healthier person - I discovered this incredible world of wellness and coaching. A few years into this I’ve lost the weight, and have enough energy to keep up with my now toddler & threenager. We have (mostly) healthy homemade meals, I’ve started homesteading, and own a thriving wellness business.
I realized how important it was to put my health first. This ignited a passion for providing resources and support to women ready for something different. I found myself in a position to encourage others to prioritize their wellness. This led to the creation of my programs and other resources, designed for anyone like myself, who was drowning in life (motherhood in particular) and was ready to start living a healthier, more balanced, & sustainable lifestyle.
While on this journey I’ve discovered my ultimate goal is to make wellness available to EVERYONE. Whether you’re a parent looking for guidance in building healthier habits for yourself and your family, just finding out about the importance of wellness and would like help in sorting through all the health information out there, or looking for a community of like-minded, wellness-centered, encouraging people - I’ve got you.
On an average day, I juggle three tiny humans, manage small farm things, coach my incredible clients, and teach yoga.
Let’s Talk.
In the last seven years, I have been through a whirlwind of life changes. I graduated college, got married, moved about a dozen times, had three children, lost both of my parental figures, received my health coaching certification with IIN, acquired a 200hr yoga certification, and started this business. (Whew!)
Like many that have landed in the world of wellness, I have a background in medicine. I started out as a CNA for one of the biggest hospitals in the country. This experience encouraged me to enter nursing school. I remember being so disappointed in the lack of preventive care and education. Although I had a passion for taking care of people and found medicine in itself completely fascinating - I was determined to find another way.
Fun fact about me: I was raised by my great-grandparents. During their final years, I found myself being their primary caregiver. Experiencing a new side of life and medicine gave me priceless knowledge. I know firsthand how impossible it feels to take care of yourself between appointments, emergency calls, school, work, and grief.
During my time at the Institute of Integrative Nutrition, I discovered the importance of assessing my life as a whole. This was the first step in learning how to create a more balanced lifestyle. The key to achieving my health and wellness goals and ultimately, making me a happier person - and a better mom!
Additionally, I uncovered this passion for nutritional education - I strongly feel that having a guide to help you through all the nutritional misinformation out there is essential to starting a healthy lifestyle.
